Onkyo TX-NR709 no sound

Trying to help a friend out who has the above amp.
All connected and all settings have been double checked by me, no sound and the display does not indicate the normal speakers connected.
From some reading I got it narrowed to the DTS chip, apparently it also controls the signal going to the power side??
I do think someone tinkered as there are some brown marks around the chip.
So, can someone fix this or is this a chuck it in the bin situation?

It looks like it has over-heated, chip print also appears to be discoloured.

My thoughts as well, I shall break the bad news to him that he has a heavy paperweight.
Sad part is, this time it is an Onkyo where all the hdmi ports are working flawlessly , ha ha
