Logitech after 10 years since the above range was cancelled have decided it is time to shut down their Squeezebox Servers, meaning those of us who rely on this for streaming on our Squeezebox devices will no longer be able to do so after Tuesday this week.
If you are a user of one of these devices you will need to visit the LMS forum as mentioned above and switch to Logitech Media Server, which requires a computer as a local server for these devices to continue working. In the country of Load Shedding, this is not an ideal scenario so an easy (well... fairly easy, I needed plenty of guidance from kind members of the LMS forum) solution is to use a Raspberry Pi mini-PC to work as your server. The RPi consumes as little as 2w power when running, your main PC now plays no part in this at all and you can still control LMS from any PC (also a Cellphone) on your common IP address.
The player is PiCore Player which is an OS on its own and includes the combined player & OS on one SD Card.
I was so happy with my build that I built a second RPi which will be used at work. If you know what you are doing, total setup time is probably 20 minutes or so once you have all the components. If you are a dufus at this *like me) it still takes less than an hour.
My kit comprises Raspberry Pi3B+, the first one running off an 8Gb SD card, the second one using a 32GB SD card.

Hello Squeezebox and UE SmartRadio users
After a more than ten year journey, as of February 2024, we will discontinue our UESmartRadio.com and MySqueezebox.com servers. We would like to thank you for your loyalty and support throughout this time.
It has not been an easy decision to take, particularly because we have been maintaining the Squeezebox servers more than a decade after we stopped selling the devices themselves. However, after carefully evaluating the changing music services landscape and ever-evolving security requirements, we have to recognize that, going forward, we will not be able to maintain our services to the necessary standards.
As a consequence of this shutdown, support for services integrating with MySqueezebox.com/UESmartRadio.com will no longer be available on your devices. Most notably this will impact users of TIDAL, Pandora, and Deezer.
Nevertheless, you will still be able to use your UE SmartRadio/Squeezebox by accessing the Logitech Media Server locally. All users will need to download and run some software locally, which can be found here. That means you can continue to enjoy much of the functionality you love.
We're here to assist you during this transition, and we will be available to answer any questions or provide guidance should you encounter any difficulties.
Thank you again for being part of our community.
If you have any questions, please reach out to us at forums.slimdevices.com.
