I doubt that I'm the only one who made mixtapes (autocorrect puts it as mistakes and yes, we all made a good few of them both in life and on tapes) , I got around to listening to a few old ones of mine tonight and thought - why not a what's on the... thread. So this one has the somewhat cynical me title of 'Raggle Taggle Art W*nking' (hey, I was a bored and unemployed student with a lot of debt):

1. Waiting for the Man -:VU live 1992
2. Heroin - VU live 1992
3. Ugly Truth Rock - Matthew Sweet
4. The Drowners - Flying Saucer Attack
5. Like a Daydream - Ride
6. Swim - Madder Rose
7. Counting Backwards - Throwing Muses
8. Car -:Come
9. Beers, Steers and Queers - Revolting Cocks
10. Sabotage -:Beastie Boys
11. Shiny Happy People -:Fatima Mansions
12. Hey Student -:The Fall
13. Misirlou - Dick Dale
14. Son of A Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield (well, had to get Pulp Fiction in one go)
15. Urge Overkill - Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon (went too far on PF sadly)
16. Valet Parking - The Auteurs
17. The Campaign for Real Rock - Edwyn Collins
18. Gravity Grave - The Verve
19. I Am The Resurrection - The Stone Rose's

And that's 90 minutes give or take of chrome

This one seems to have lost its name (I uses to cut art postcards to the size of the cassette card, so I'll just call it 'inner Ear Hand'

3. Stutter - Elastica
4. I Hate Rock and Roll - The Jesus and Mary Chain
5. Ice Cold Ice - Husker Du
6. Only Losers Take the Bus - Fatima Mansions
7. Flavour pt. 1 - John Spencer Blues Explosion
8. Liar - Rollins Band
9. Home - The God Machine
10. Spoonman - Soundgarden
11. Everybody Loves You - Cop Shoot Cop
12. Start Choppin' - Dinosaur Jr
13. The Mercy Seat - Ultra Vivid Scene

18. Non-Alignment Pact - Pere Ubu
19. Hell City Hell - The Supersuckers
20. Waterlogged -Cornershop
21. The Blank - Bailterspace

Note to self - if you want to remember all the band names 30 years later, write them down (I think I have at least twenty tracks called home from then, only knew which band when it started playing)

While I have heard of two or three of the artists listed above, the only song I am familiar with is Son of a Preacher Man, by Dusty Springfield. She has always been outstanding and a firm favourite.

Guess my musical knowledge was somewhat stinted as a kid or maybe I listened to the wrong radio stations back then - LM Radio (later Radio 5) & Springbok Radio.

Another one from my student days (I still remember listening to this on a beach in Canada with a few Molsons)

19. The End (Live version) - The Doors
20. Rocking In the Free World (Live) - Neil Young
21. Like a Hurricane (Live) - Neil Young and Crazy Horse

A mixture of old and new as well as pretty much half of my DJ set of the time depending on the audience, one bunch may love the oldies, one bunch want pop and noise. I once played a whole load of Swans and Killdozer to law students who even tipped me afterwards. You never know

This one was put together for a long haul flight, I still remember listening to it sitting on the floor in Gatwick Airport waiting for a delayed charter flight to Mombasa (the return flight very nearly didn't happen either because back in those days we had passenger manifests and if the agent didn't bother to turn up at the airport which they didn't you likely didn't get on the plane!):

No track listing on the tape so will update as I go along!

Darkside/Lightside Psycho Comp:

Darkside (although not very mostly):

1. Freakscene - Dinosaur Jr
2. The Mercy Seat - Ultra Vivid Scene (I'll admit that I loved that song far too much and it is on many of my compilations)
3. Suzanne - Moose
4. Love's Sweet Exile - Manic Street Preachers
5. Been Caught Stealin' - Jane's Addiction
6. Right Here, Right Now - Jesus Jones
7. Hit - The Sugarcubes
8. Kinky Love - Pale Saints
9. Nothing Can Stop Us Now - St Etienne
10. The Storm - World of Twist (think it's the Blackpool Tower Ballroom Suite actually, I had it on 12" vinyl then, sold it many moons ago)
11. This Love Is Not Wrong - The Field Mice

And that's one side done (the field mice was cut off at the end, but at least I still have the singles and mini LP!

Other Side (maybe not so lightside)

1. Pretend We're Dead - L7
2. Grey Cell Green - Ned's Atomic Dustbin (band name for the elders on the forum!)
3. Son of Mustang Ford - Swervedriver
4. How You Satisfy Me - Spectrum
5. Love Will Tear Us Apart - Swans

I'll fill in the rest tomorrow, I'm going to chill now

Well life took over as always but the next tracks are

6. Rise - Public Image Limited
7. The Devil Went Down to Georgia - The Levellers
8. Love Your Money - Daisy Chainsaw
9. Big Bad Baby Pigsqueal - Silverfish
10. Wipe It Away - Bleach
11. Endless Art - A House
12. Evil Man - Fatima Mansions
13. A brief intro to 'Blues For Ceaucescu' just the 'radio Bucharest international' ident)

Darn, I forgot how good Bleach and A House were, sadly the former had only a couple of EPs, the latter, I have their 'I Am The Greatest' album and it still gets the odd play, Cathal Coughlan (Fatima Mansions) made some of the best music from the early 80s (with Microdisney) until the late 90s (and some decent solo stuff in the 2000s). Time for an LP
